Multi-date needs, recurring shifts and custom shifts

Hello Galaxy Digital

1.) I would like to suggest that multi-date needs allow multiple dates to be assigned within one need. Currently it only allows one start date and one end date, making the volunteer dates purely consecutive to one another until the assigned end date. I am asking that within the start date and the end date, agencies can select multiple dates such as opportunities that are twice a week or once a month but do not have specific shifts associated with them.

For example: I have a non-profit who needs volunteers the last Saturday of each month but does not have a specific time for when volunteers should show up. As long as it is between their normal office hours of 7 AM - 7PM they can come for 30 minutes or they can come for 4 hours. Whatever fits best with their schedule. If I was to create this need under recurring needs, it would show the duration as 12 hours which will greatly confuse interested volunteers.

2.) I am also asking that recurring shifts and custom shifts allow each shift to allow a description next to it so that agencies can give a description of the activities associated with each shift if needed. They can select to add an activity description to each shift. This would be super useful for agencies who are requesting help for an all-day event where the morning shifts might be specific to a set up crew and the afternoon crew is just for those who want to help at a registration table etc.

Thank you for considering these in future enhancements.

Thank you for moving these suggestions forward Brittany!

To follow up on this note: One thing you can do for the second suggestion now is set up those individual volunteer activities as their own volunteer Needs with shifts, i.e., you can set up a custom or recurring Need for the all-day event with only one activity as the central focus for that Need (e.g., Morning Crew—Registration Table Set Up). Then be sure to utilize the description field of that Need to explain the activities and duties they'll be completing in those specific times and areas. You can create as many of these as needed for that event (e.g., Afternoon Crew—Registration Table Management).

  • While this is an option, many non-profits who I have spoken to do not like this option because it is much more time consuming to create an entirely new need for each activity and make sure people know it is all part of the same larger event. It would be extremely helpful to allow volunteers to pick the shift and activity they want to sign up for within one need instead of searching for individual needs associated with the event that are scattered throughout the platform.

Hello, Brianna!

Thank you for submitting your enhancement suggestions to the team! I am going to submit these suggestions as support suggestion submissions. Here is what I will share with the development team to discuss at a future enhancement meeting:

1. Add duration type for Needs that occur on multiple dates without specified scheduled shifts (e.g., a nonprofit needs volunteers to work open-ended hours—as many as they can/want—between 7 am and 7 pm on the last Saturday and Sunday of each month).

2. Add a description field for individual custom or recurring shifts to highlight the activities and expectations of those specific job duties.
