Heads up! This article is intended for volunteers that want to learn about waitlists for full Needs. If you're a site manager looking for information about managing your site's waitlists, click here. If you're an agency manager looking for information about waitlists, click here

Sites can enable a waitlist option for volunteer Needs when a Need has met its limit for volunteer responses. You can tell the waitlist option is enabled when:

  • You see Waitlist in place of the Respond button for a Need.

  • You see Full in place of the Respond button for a Need and Waitlist under the Respond column for Needs with scheduled shifts.

Here we cover:

How to add yourself to a waitlist

Non-shift Needs

To be added to a waitlist for a non-shift Need, click the Waitlist button.

  • The button changes to Added to Waitlist
    • You also receive a notification confirming that you've been added to that waitlist.

  • If a spot becomes available for that Need, you're notified by email that a spot is open and that you can respond to it.
    • This notification is sent to all volunteers on the waitlist for that Need.
    • Keep in mind that someone else on the waitlist may fill the Need, but you will remain on the waitlist if this happens.

Needs with scheduled shifts

The process is the same for Needs with scheduled shifts as it is for non-shift Needs. The only difference is, you put yourself on a waitlist for a specific shift for Needs with scheduled shifts. Just click Waitlist for the shift you want to be added to a waitlist for under the Respond column.

  • The button changes to Added to Waitlist
    • You also receive a notification confirming that you've been added to that waitlist.

  • If a spot becomes available for that shift, you're notified by email that a spot is open and that you can respond to it.
    • This notification is sent to all volunteers on the waitlist for that shift.
    • Keep in mind that someone else on the waitlist may fill the shift, but you will remain on the waitlist if this happens.

How to remove yourself from a waitlist

You can remove yourself from a waitlist at any time. The process is the same for either non-shift Needs or Needs with scheduled shifts. Return to the Need and click the Added to Waitlist button. A popup appears asking you to confirm your selection—click Yes to confirm and be removed from the waitlist or No to cancel and stay on the waitlist.

  • The button changes back to Waitlist.
