Heads up! This article is intended for Agency Managers. Need clusters may not be available on all sites.

When creating Needs, you may have the option to add additional tags called clusters. These are a way for Site Managers to group similar Needs on their site under one URL. Here we cover:

So you know: Not every site has clusters available. These are created and managed by the Site Manager. Please contact your Site Manager if you have questions about available clusters.

What are Need clusters?

A Need cluster is a special tag a Site Manager has created that can be assigned to volunteer Needs. Site Managers are the only ones who can create, delete, and manage available Need clusters. These are unique and differ from site to site. Need clusters are:

  • Tags or keywords that can be assigned to any Need posted on the site
  • Used to help group similar Needs under one shared URL or page
  • Unique to each site since they are created and managed by the site's Site Manager(s)
  • Optional—you don't have to select a cluster when creating or editing a Need
    • If you don't want your volunteer Needs grouped with similar Needs from other Agencies, then don't select a cluster

How to apply a cluster to a Need

You can apply a cluster to a new Need or add one to an existing Need:

1. Go to My Agency

  • If you manage more than one Agency, click My Agencies to select one from the dropdown.

2. Select the Needs tab.

3. Select the Need from the list.

  • If creating a new Need, click Add New Needclick here for more information about creating Needs as an Agency Manager.

  • If adding a cluster to an existing Need, click the Need title or click Edit under the Need title.

4. Scroll until you see Clusters

  • If you don't see this field, the Site Manager may not have any clusters on their site.

5. Select the Cluster(s) from the dropdown.

  • If creating a new Need, be sure to finish setting up the Need and click Create Need when done.
  • If editing an existing Need, click Update Need to save your changes.

How to remove a cluster from a Need

You can always remove a cluster from a Need if you don't want it grouped with other similar Needs:

1. Go to My Agency

  • If you manage more than one Agency, click My Agencies to select one from the dropdown.

2. Select the Needs tab.

3. Select the Need from the list.

4. Scroll until you see Clusters

5. Click the X beside the cluster you want to delete.

6 Be sure to click Update Need to save your changes.

Where clustered items are grouped

When a Need has a cluster assigned, it is grouped with other Needs that share that same tag or cluster. Site Managers can access a URL linked to a page where those Needs are grouped. These Needs may be posted from one Agency or multiple Agencies registered on that site. Please contact your Site Manager if you wish to share that link with others.
